Daily Prayer for November 12th, 2008

Today I pray for endurance in what is sure to be a long process

When you are up against a step, you cannot see where the next step is leading. Sometimes opportunity is like staring at the knees of a giraffe.

Lord, show me today how my work brings me closer to you

Christ learned about his mission while he was cutting wood and making chairs, beds and cabinets. He came as a carpenter to show us that–no matter what we do–everything can lead us to the experience of God’s love.

May my prayer habits aid me when I am under pressure, I pray

To develop a reliable routine, a golfer has to decide to follow it and practice it time after time until it becomes an ingrained habit that will show up no matter how much pressure he or she is under. You can be sure that under pressure, you will find out what your dominant habit is.

Daily Prayer for March 27th, 2008

For those of us lost in the struggle, we pray

Every search begins with beginner’s luck. And every search ends with the victor’s being severely tested. It is said that the darkest hour of the night came just before the dawn. That’s the point at which most people give up. It’s the point at which, in the language of the desert, ‘one dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon.’

Let us pray for those we will encounter today who have somehow lost faith

So many people use unanswered prayers as a reason for not believing in God.

Daily Prayer for October 5th, 2007

Lord, give me fortitude when faced with nay-sayers

Work only with the receptive. After Jesus chose the twelve men who would help him start a movement that continues to this day, he sent them on a mission. He didn’t give them much of a plan or any financing. If a village wasn’t receptive to what they were trying to do, they were to ’shake the dust off your feet’ and move on to the next village.

Daily Prayer for September 20th, 2007

Let us wake up and have the wisdom to see where we are

The difference between greatness and mediocrity may be two inches. That is my recurring nightmare. Someday I will be with God and He will say, ‘Jimmy, you were two steps away from greatness. Why didn’t you take them?’ I will not be condemned by the lack of those two steps. I will be embarrassed by my failure to take them.
