Daily Prayer for May 8th, 2008

For mothers, because worry is part of their job description, we pray

I worried most at night about my age. I had Susana when I was 35 and Emma when I was 39. I couldn’t help calculating the future: When Emma is 21, I’ll be 60. How old will I be when my daughters marry? None of my friends is likely to see her grandchildren marry.  What have we done?

Betty says:

My mother had me at the age of 20 and died when I was 14, so even though she had me at a young age, she was still not around to see my children, let alone my grandchildren. In other words, God works in mysterious ways. I miss her, but I am so grateful for the time I had with her. My youngest sister was only 7 and doesn’t remember her at all. When I got married, I pinned one of here brooches inside my bouquet of flowers to represent her presence. Enjoy the time you have with your children. If you make the most of that time, even if you are not there to see them get married or to see their children, you will have given them so much joy.
